You’ve probably heard about the amazing trend of using sea moss to improve your health holistically, and you definitely don’t want to miss out! The seaweed is rich in vitamins and minerals that are extremely beneficial to the body. Here's everything you should know about this unique natural supplement!

a little background

Also called “Irish moss” or “red seaweed,” sea moss is one of the most versatile plants (and superfoods) in existence. An intertidal seaweed, it grows in tidepools and inlets around the world, from Europe to North America to the Caribbean.

This isn’t a recent discovery. Native people in coastal communities around the world have been harvesting and using sea moss as medicine for generations. That's because sea moss has a wide range of benefits, such as:

  • Boosts the immune system

  • Nourishes the skin

  • Improves hair growth

  • Improves mood and energy

  • Improves digestion; boosts satiety

  • Draws out toxins and other harmful substances in the body

  • Supports natural bodyweight loss

  • Helps the thyroid function better

  • Promotes anti-aging benefits

  • Anti-inflammatory (can be used for joint pain)

Sea moss is incredibly rich in amino acids, vitamin C, vitamin A, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and includes 92 of the 102 critical minerals that our bodies require to function and thrive!

how to supplement

The best way to consume is naturally, with raw sea moss or through sea moss gel. You can purchase in stores / online, but remember to research the brand before buying to ensure quality. I love making the dried moss into gel myself - It’s like a fun science experiment!

make your own sea moss gel

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Raw Irish Sea Moss

  • 1-2 cups Filtered or Spring Water

Instructions:

  1. Place the dried sea moss in a large bowl, cover it with water, and massage the moss. Be sure to remove any visible dirt and debris. Drain and repeat this step once more.

  2. Place the sea moss back into large bowl and cover it with filtered or spring water (not tap). Make sure all parts are covered. Allow the sea moss to soak for 12-24 hours at room temperature.

  3. Add the sea moss to a high-powered blender along with the water. Start with 1 cup of water and add more if necessary (no more than 2 cups total).

  4. Blend until smooth, for about 1-3 minutes.

  5. Transfer the sea moss into an airtight container/mason jar, and refrigerate. The sea moss will thicken on its own.

Once you have your prepared sea moss gel, you can store it in the fridge for 3-4 weeks and use it in a number of recipes.

It’s an excellent plant-based substitute for gelatin or a similar thickening agent, and it has little to no flavor, so feel free to add it to just about anything! It works great in smoothies, juices, tea, sauces, dressings, and soups. You can even rub into your skin as a lotion/cream, or into your scalp for hair benefits, to provide those vital minerals.

how much to supplement

Sea moss is super safe and easy to incorporate into your health regimen. A little goes a LONG way! The recommended amount of gel to take daily is 1-2 tablespoons. That’s just enough to see the benefits!
